THE PEOPLE OF JAPAN SUPPORT 26 HEAVY EQUIPMENT TO THE PEOPLE OF TIMOR-LESTE

PM- Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão Observes the Heavy Equipament donated by Japanese  Goverment in the Central compound of IGEADI, I.P. Tuesday  Colmera Dili.

Dili, 27 August 2025 (IGEADI.IP) – The people of Japan through its Embassy in Timor-Leste and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supported heavy equipment totaling 26 units to the people of Timor-Leste.

Through her speech, President of the Institute of Equipment Management and Infrastructure Development Support, Public Institute (IGEADI.IP) Dra. Ana Paula da Cruz, thanked the people of Japan for supporting 26 units of heavy equipment to the people of Timor-Leste, especially to support the country’s natural disaster risk reduction program.

“Today we are all gathered in this beautiful place, as a witness to a significant moment of solidarity for cooperation between Timor-Leste and Japan, this opportunity marks the act of generosity donating 26 units of heavy equipment from the people of Japan to the people of Timor-Leste, especially to support the country’s natural disaster risk reduction program,” said President IGEADI.IP  Dra. Ana Paula da Cruz through her speech at the handover ceremony of heavy equipment at the Central Compound IGEADI.IP Colmera Dili, Tuesday (27/08/2024).

President IGEADI.IP highlights that the people of Japan symbolically handed over 10 excavators Cobelco brand with its capacity as Long Excavator PC 220, three units Standard Excavator PC 200 three units, complete with three Jack Hammer, mini Excavator PC 50 total four units and in the short time IGEADI. IP will receive 16 units as One loader, two bulldozers, one motor grader, three Vibro, two drainage trucks, four trucks and four dump trucks.

“The heavy equipment that we received today from the donation is an important instrument in various aspects related to the preparation and response situation against natural disasters, these equipments will help infrastructure development and support other essential activities that are crucial when natural disasters occur, this donation will also help save people’s lives, ensure the restoration of infrastructure facilities needed to support the economic activities of the people of Timor-Leste, and protect their livelihood sustainability, said the President of IGEADI.IP

In the same moment, Japanese Ambassador to Timor Leste, Dr. Tetsuya KIMURA said, It is a great honor for him, today to come together to deliver heavy machinery to IGEADI.IP, especially to the people of Timor-Leste, this month the Deputy Parliamentary Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. KOMURA ,made an official visit to Timor-Leste, to meet with Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana  Gusmão, during the meeting. Mr. KOMURA expressed his colorful appreciation, saying that Japan has worked with Timor-Leste.

” Indeed, our cooperation has a long history, and this year is more significant because it marks the 25th anniversary of the first development partner meeting, held in Tokyo in 1999, our cooperation in the infrastructure sector also has deep roots. Japan has placed a PKO in Timor-Leste since March 2002 to contribute to the development of the country. After the mission ended, the equipment used during that time remained in Timor-Leste and has been used for more than 20 years. I believe that the presence of a donation symbolizes the strong bond between Timor-Leste and Japan,” said Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Dr. Tetsuya KIMURA.

The Ambassador added that in recent years from 2020 to 2023 the Government of Japan has partnered with JDRAC, an NGO established by the majority of Japanese who participated in the PKO mission on a project to train Timorese individuals on the maintenance and operation of heavy machinery. The Ambassador also had the opportunity to observe maintenance and inspection training in Liquiça, his part will remember well IGEADI.IP employees greeted each other with the word “Goanzenni” in Japanese means “I wish you security” and they are very involved in the future development of Timor-Leste’s infrastructure.

“I understand that some of you here today are former students of the training course, or received instruction from former students. I am glad to provide heavy machinery to newcomers who are keen to improve their knowledge and skills.

The Ambassador added that the heavy machinery offered by the Japanese people amounted to 26 with the objective to increase the country’s performance for natural disaster recovery, these initiatives will strengthen Timor-Leste’s resilience against natural disasters, he said Japan is committed to support Timor-Leste’s development and ready to work with Timor-Leste.

In the same occasion, Prime Minister (PM), Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, thanked the Government and the people of Japan for offering ten (10) heavy equipment, composed of 6 large and 4 small machines to the Government of Timor-Leste through the Institute of Equipment Management and Infrastructure Development Support, Public Institute (IGEADI.IP).

 I am very grateful to the Japanese Government for offering these heavy equipment. I’m grateful to the Japanese people for offering with all their hearts and not asking for anything from what they have given,” said PM Xanana Gusmão.

The ceremony of handing over heavy equipment from the Japanese people to the people of Timor-Leste was attended by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister Coordinator of Social Affairs and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing, Mariano Assanami Sabino, members of the Government, Members of Committee E on Infrastructure Affairs, Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, JAICA, JDRAC, Administration Council and all  Staff of IGEADI.IP .
